Slopetopia Music School is a new music school in Park Slope with classes in piano, voice, musical theater, and chorus. There are programs for students of all ages and levels. The school's mission is to teach in the traditional style but using contemporary teaching tools, such as MIDI technology and computers. While still keeping the classical form and structure of a lesson, teachers have found students to be more responsive using an approach that incorporates the best of today's learning techniques.
In addition, students are taught through more active learning, such as writing their own music, choosing particular "wish-list" songs they would like to learn, and learning basic improvisation techniques. Students will be encouraged to perform in annual recitals and for our holiday recording project. Currently, students may study privately or semi-privately. In September of 2013, Slopetopia Music School will be offering larger group classes; including chorus, musical theater, and music theory and history classes.
